Shiatsu literally
translates as "finger
pressure" whilst REIKI means "Universal Energy".
Both Reiki and Shiatsu originated in Japan more than 4,000
years ago. Reiki is a healing technique during which practitioners
release obstacles to well being, by focusing on energy
centres. Shiatsu is based on stimulating key pressure points
to release blocked energy using a variety of techniques
including manipulation, massage and stretching.
In REIKI healing, there is no massage or manipulation;
the practitioner places his/her hands on the patient in
varying positions for about five minutes. Positions include
head, neck, shoulders etc. depending on where the REIKI
seems most needed.
After treatment people generally experience a feeling of
well being and relaxation, sometimes increased energy.
They may also find they are more aware of their emotions.
REIKI and Shiatsu can help to heal both emotional and physical
problems.
Shiatsu practitioners consider the patient's energy levels
and state of health as well as their symptoms when devising
a treatment. They use a variety of gentle pressing, stretching
and rotating techniques to improve the flow of energy.
The underlying theory is that the body's energy flows in
a series of channels called meridians. When it stops flowing
freely for whatever reason, a blockage is created. This
blockage produces a symptom. |
